Bringing Individuals Together to Shape Our Community
The Findlay-Hancock County Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) supports a network of community partners to interconnect resources and address complex social issues.
We support eight community coalitions Working toward identifying and addressing social issues affecting both Findlay and Hancock County. We also are a unifying voice in making sure the public is aware of the effort and energy put forth by our coalitions addressing these issues.
After numerous community assessments and conversations, The United Way of Hancock County heard from thousands of constituents regarding "What are the issues in Findlay-Hancock County?" Priority issues easily rose to the top and the United Way began to work collectively to find a process to address them.
The issues identified were:
- Workforce Development
- Mental Health & Substance Use
- Food Security
- Safety & Abuse
Around the same time, the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation was having similar internal conversations, asking themselves how they could make a deeper impact on these complex social issues.
Leaders in the Findlay community began conversations with leaders in Columbus, Indiana, who have similar issues needing addressed. Columbus's approach was CivicLab- an Institute for Civic Collaboration dedicated toward addressing complex social issues in the community.
Workforce partners in Hancock County adopted CivicLab's process as a way to guide work in the community. After adoption of the process and training, the Findlay-Hancock County Center for Civic Engagement launched in December 2016.
