Carla Hayden, Ph.D., Librarian of Congress, visited the University of Findlay on March 23rd to stress the importance of children’s literacy as it pertains to critical thinking and lifelong learning. “I started as a children’s librarian and I remain that at heart,” Hayden said during her speech.

Afterward, she visited the Mazza Museum where she and author/illustrator Will Hillenbrand enthusiastically read to Jacobs Primary School Students. Hayden also praised programs that help “bridge the gap” for those who may not have much access to books such as Dolly Parton’s Imaginary Library. The Findlay chapter for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is championed by the Literacy Coalition Hancock County.
